Aircraft interior lighting

Specialising in aircraft lighting products i.e. Honeywell-Grimes, Goodrich-Hella, Whelen, Diehl, and Page along with our routine aviation spares and equipment Cruise Aero Ltd can offer competitive prices with acceptable lead times

Aircraft interior lighting comes in three major categories...

general illumination, which

covers fluorescents and sidewall lights, passenger reading lights, and emergency lighting.

These are the three types of passenger cabin lighting

systems. There’s also smaller, anciliary lights that perform various functions, for example, galley lights or tread lights.

A market leader in aircraft interior lighting, Honeywell Grimes provides products in every category.

LED lighting solutions

The majority of interior lights are either fluorescent or halogen-powered. The industry is looking increasingly at solid-state solutions based on light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

These can serve as an alternative to halogen or fluorescent

lights, where appropriate. Fluorescent lighting will continue to provide the basic lighting in aircraft cabins over the next five years, but LED and fluorescent are likely to be combined in the future.

Colour lighting, continuous dimming functions and mood lighting.

Fly-by-wire aircraft are very sensitive to interference, so light units are designed to meet the highest requirements, with a tendency to use LEDs for colour lighting and mood or

effect lighting.

Side-wall lights, wall wash lights and ceiling lights. feature lights, spotlights and passenger reading lights all geature as integrated customised solutions in new

aircraft.

One company, Luminator, is in the process of developing wireless interior lighting systems that will utilise

common household batteries as their source of power. No wire harnesses, because wireless systems use a radio frequency transmitter and receiver. Furthermore, airlines do not have to pay for maintenance of a battery. Wireless systems can use household batteries that are taken

out at maintenance intervals and thrown away.

Goodrich Hella Aerospace Lighting.

Goodrich Hella Aerospace Lighting Systems will be supplying exterior lighting for the A380. The contract was awarded by Airbus groups in France, Germany and UK. The order includes 23 different exterior lighting components which will be developed and supplied by facilities in Lippstadt, Germany and Tampa, Florida.

Whelen anti-collision and position lights.

All aircraft must have an approved anti-collision light and position light system for nighttime operations. The position lights consist of an

Aviation Red on the left side, an Aviation Green on the right and an Aviation White taillight (REF. FAR 23.1389).

The anti-collision lighting system is required under FAR PART 91.205(c). There are different requirements affecting different aircraft.

These aircraft are categorized by the date of application for type certificate.

Diehl Aerospace provides certified coloured LED cabin lighting systems to their customers. Within its business group "Cabin-Customization-Interior" Diehl Aerospace focuses on cabin safety, cabin management and power conversion and distribution. Their cabin interior lighting is a major interior design element.
